Galentine's Day: Good Gift Ideas for the Gals

Posted on February 05 2019

It’s the month of love. It’s the time to say goodbye to bland-uary and hello to warmer weather (right? RIGHT?). Our hearts start literally and figuratively warming up.  We all know the middle of the month is marked by Valentine’s Day, but 9 years ago, one of our most beloved fictitious feminists, Leslie Knope, introduced us to a new holiday we love just as much as the official day of love: Galentine’s Day on February 13th.

It’s a day to celebrate our lady friends, girlfriends, besties, villagers.

While we think the best way to celebrate your gal pals is to get together for some good conversation, we know kids, work or even distance can get in the way.  We came up with a few good gift ideas if you’re looking to send your gals something good just to say hi and tell them you’re thinking of them.

Grab a Tea

If you aren't able to grab a tea together, send her everything she needs to make the perfect cup of tea and have a virtual tea date!

1. Ajiri Teas - ranges from $15 - $17

Ajiri's tea is grown in the green, fertile Kisii Hills of western Kenya. Its goal is to create employment for women in western Kenya with all profits donated to the Ajiri Foundation to pay school fees for orphans in western Kenya. Bonus: Each unique label is handmade using dried banana leaves and can be used as a keepsake for years to come.

2. Hecho Cobre Glazed Barro Tea Strainer - $24 || Handmade Tropical Wooden Spoon - $12

Hecho is committed to transparency, fair pay and ethical sourcing practices and works with a small group of hand-selected artisans in Mexico who uphold family and cultural traditions, techniques, and tools to handcraft stunning goods.

Celebrate Her Inner & Outer Feminista

She's fierce and she's feminine. Celebrate this blissful co-existence.

1. Fair Anita's Feminist Necklaces - $62 || Feminist Bracelet Cuff - $50 || Wise Word's Leather Bracelets - $19

2. Malia Designs Fierce Pouches - $28

Malia Designs provides  economic opportunity for women in Cambodia and supports organizations that fight human trafficking in Southeast Asia.

Pamper Your Pal

While you're still planning that spa getaway you've talked about for the past few years, send her simple self-care gifts that will put a smile on her face and hopefully nudger her to spend a few minutes to herself.

1. Matr Boomie Recycled Cotton Tree Free Journals - ranges from $5 to $48 || Ayurdevic Soaps - ranges from $8 - $12

Matr Boomie began in 2006 as a dream to create positive change through ethical, sustainable trade. Their founders, Ruchi and Manish, sought to relieve the extreme poverty in their native India by bridging the rich culture and potential of rural Indians and opportunities of the modern world.

African Bronze Honey Company is a collaborative effort between Canada and Zambia to provide beekeepers and women's co-operatives the ability to protect pristine forest environments and create economic opportunity for themselves and their families.

Call Out Her Courage

She's one of the strongest people you know and continues to show resilience and courage regardless of what life throws at her.

1. Purpose Jewelry Triple Strand Courage Bracelet - $38

Purpose Jewelry is beautifully crafted by young women rescued from human trafficking. They've worked with hundreds of young women around the world for the past 10 years to provide freedom, dignity, and hope for their amazing artisans.
